LITERARY AND CULTURAL STUDIES. In keeping with ongoing changes in higher
education, the Wayne State English Department has embarked upon a
reconceptualization of its academic programs and mission. The department
seeks to redefine itself as part of an urban research university focused on
questions of globalization and technology, particularly as they affect a
comprehensive program with a breadth of historical scope and disciplinary
diversity. For two tenure-track assistant professor positions, the
department invites applications from scholars whose research addresses
concerns relevant to an English department focused on global, urban, and/or
technological issues, in relation to one or more of the following areas: 1)
African-American literature and culture (particularly trans-Atlantic or
pan-American); 2) literature and globalization (including trans-national
and post-colonial); 3) digital culture. We are especially interested in
candidates whose work moves across different historical periods or
contributes to the department's ongoing redefinition. Please send letter
and CV, postmarked no later than October 31, to Richard Grusin, Chair,
Department of English, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI 48202. Wayne
State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more
than 350 academic programs through 14 schools and colleges to more than
31,000 students in metropolitan Detroit. Wayne State University is an
equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Minority candidates are
especially encouraged to apply.
