GEORGE LINDSEY FILM FESTIVAL SEEKS ENTRIES FOR 6TH ANNUAL EVENT

    FLORENCE, Ala. - George Lindsey Film Festival officials at the
University of North Alabama announce that entries are being accepted for
the 6th annual festival, which will be April 24-25, 2003.
    Dr. Garry Warren, chair of the festival, said entries are being sought
from professionals, faculty, college students, high school students and
kindergarten through 8th grade students.
    Production of the entries must have been completed in 2001 and 2002.
    The categories are: Professional - full length narrative (under two
hours); short narrative (under 30 minutes); short documentary (under one
hour); and music video (3-5 minutes); Faculty - any of above categories
(under two hours).  These will be jury reviewed; Student - full length
narrative (under two hours); short narrative (under 30 minutes); short
documentary (under one hour); and music video (3-5 minutes); Lion Cub (K-8)
- short narrative (under 30 minutes); short documentary (under 30 minutes);
and music video (3-5 minutes).
    More than one entry is allowed, however, each must be submitted separately.
    The entry deadline is January 31, 2003.
    The entry fee for each professional submission is $20. The faculty
submission fee is $20. High school and college student submission fees are
$10 each. A $5 entry fee is required for each Lion Cub submission.
    Each entry must include a VHS cassette of the project, a completed
entry form (with name, address, telephone numbers of contact person), a
50-word synopsis of the project, a 45-second clip to be shown on awards
night and the entry fee (check or money order made payable to UNA Film
Festival Competition). Entries should be mailed or shipped to:  George
Lindsey UNA Film Festival, UNA Box 5151, Florence, AL 35632-0001.
Submissions will not be returned.  Entries, in whole or part, may be used
for publicity and for viewing at the festival. All entries must be
postmarked by the appropriate entry deadline to be eligible for awards.
       The festival gives cash awards for the best of show winners in each
category.  Golden Lion Awards will be presented Thursday night, April 24,
2003, at the ceremony in the University Center on the UNA campus.

Technologies in Collier Library or at the Office of University Relations on
campus.
      Established by Dr. Lindsey, who has had a long, illustrious career on
the Broadway stage and in television and film in New York and Hollywood,
and professor emeritus of journalism Bobbie Hurt, the festival is an
non-profit, cultural and educational endeavor organized to use film and
video as a tool for education. Each year the festival features a
professional whose work is recognized during the three-day event and who,
with Lindsey, speaks at various events and interacts with
participants.  The former honorees include Oscar winner Ernest Borgnine,
Seinfeld and NewsRadio director Tom Cherones, NewsRadio and King of the
Hill star Stephen Root, singer/songwriter/videographer Ray Stevens and
record company executive Mike Curb.
