I know you said "in general" but I believe Boston U offers an MFA
program that allows a fair amount of latitude in elective selection, so
one could (if I read it right) focus more on critical studies. Surely,
though, for a crit degree, you're quite correct that a PhD is the way to
go. In which case, University of Chicago has an interesting-looking but
highly competitive program.
