We are requesting applications for the following position.

Lecturer in Film Studies

The Department of Theatre and Film Studies is notable for the ways in which
its courses actively integrate theory and practice at all levels. The ideal
candidate for this tenured/continuing position (approximately equivalent to
US Assistant Professor) would therefore demonstrate proficiency and/or
potential both in film scholarship and in film/video making. Candidates
must have a PhD, MFA or equivalent in film studies or related area, and must
be able to demonstrate: a thorough working knowledge of film history and
contemporary film theory; an established record, or strong evidence of
potential, in scholarly research and/or in film/video making (and/or the new
media); an established record, or strong evidence of potential, as a teacher
of film studies at the university level. It is also desirable that
candidates possess one or more of the following: expertise in New Zealand,
Australian and/or other post-colonial cinemas; interest in feminist theory,
ethnography and/or avant-garde cinema; professional and/or academic
experience in theatre or other performing arts.

The appointee will collaborate in the development and team-teaching of film
studies courses at all levels, develop a new course devoted to an area of
specialization, supervise graduate work in film studies at masters and
doctoral levels and participate as desired in theatre courses.

Full details are available from: [log in to unmask] and the
University website: www.canterbury.ac.nz. Applications, quoting TF212,
close on 17 August 2001 with Human Resources, University of Canterbury,

The University has a policy of equality of opportunity in employment.
