Time of Transition: The Boom and Beyond throughout the Americas
A regional literary conference for students and faculty
Friday, April 6, 2001

You are invited to submit presentation proposals for a grand student-run
conference celebrating the Latin American writing movement, sponsored by the
English Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The conference will
focus on the years of the Lating American "boom" period and after

We welcome a variety of proposals for panels or individual papers and
encourage submission of presentations in Spanish or English. Individual
presentations should be no more than 15 minutes long. Panels will consist of
no more than 3-4 presenters, with time for discussion.

Proposals for papers and/or panels should include the following: Title
Abstract (no more than 300 words per presenter)
Brief one-paragraphs statement about presenter(s), including
academic affiliation and e-mail address.
Please indicate any audio-visual requirements.

Topics may include (but aren't limited to):
The influence of the Boom on post-Boom literature
Gender issues in Contemporary Latin American Literature
Authors in exile
The Boom period and pop culture
Latin American literature and film
Feminist voices of the Boom and post-Boom
Pablo Neruda and the poem as a political vehicle
The effect of translation on Latin American literature
The Boom, the Indigenista, and folklore
The Boom: Surrealism as Form and Technique
Literature as a political vehicle

All abstracts are due on Monday, January 15, 2001
