Hi--R. Barton Palmer's HOLLYWOOD'S DARK CINEMA divides American film
noir into
movie types--e.g., the noir melodrama, the noir thriller, etc.--and
discusses them
chapter-by-chapter. It would be quite readable for an undergraduate
film class.
It's in the Twayne Filmmakers Series.
