INTERDISCIPLINARY HUMANITIES: CALL FOR PAPERS
"DIALOGUES OF FILM AND LITERATURE"

Interdisciplinary Humanities is accepting completed articles for a
special issue: "Dialogues of Film and Literature." Literary
works-especially novels, short stories, and drama-have long served as
source material for adaptation into movies, but there has always been a
tension between the two media and the artists working in each. We seek
articles that examine how those tensions (formal, aesthetic,
commercial, etc.) have been explored, exploited, resolved, or otherwise
employed by writers and filmmakers.

Possible topics include:

· Writers making movies
· Filmmakers writing literature
· Literature into film: beyond adaptation
· Film into literature: beyond novelization
· Film, literature, and narrative form
· Film and literature: beyond narrative
· Teaching film as "literature" (K-12, undergraduate, graduate levels)
· Teaching film and literature as "art" (K-12, undergraduate, graduate
levels)

· We also welcome short creative works of fiction, poetry, or
non-fiction prose that deal with the experience of reacting to
individual films, filmmakers and actors or with the experience of
watching films.

Papers should be no longer than 6,000 words and should be submitted
using any standard format (MLA, Chicago, etc.). Submit papers and
creative works no later than December 1, 2001 to
