Mentioning An Incident at Owl Creek Bridge brings to mind the parody of it
in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Lancelot runs out of the woods towards
the castle where the wedding is about to take place, in exactly the same
long lens shot with the same editing effect as in Owl Creek when the man in
his reverie is running into the (imagined) arms of his wife.
