Boris,

Does it have to focus only on American cinema? There are some
pretty evil women in French cinema, e.g. in Duvivier's films, or
the Simone Signoret character in Yves Allégret's Manèges (1950). The
actress Viviane Romance has played quite a few superbitches,
particularly in La Belle Équipe (Duvivier, 1936) and Panique
(Duvivier, 1946). See also Jeanne Moreau's character in Malle's
Ascenseur pour l'échafaud (Lift to the Scaffold) (1957). More
recently, what about the Sandrine Bonnaire and Isabelle Huppert
characters in La Cérémonie (A Judgment in Stone) by Chabrol?
Hope that's of some use.

Valerie Orpen.

Hello all!

A friend of mine is writing an article about 'evil women'. She is less
interested in films featuring women criminals (such as Bonnie and Clyde)
or horror/supernatural evil women (such as Exorcist). The type of female
characters she's primarily interested are those who are evil in a more
'realistic' way. The list of films we have come up with so far are:
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
Single White Female
The Hand that Rocks the Cradle
Misery
Fatal Attraction
Basic Instinct

Any more suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
