The Yorkshire Film and Television School, University of Huddersfield, is inviting applications for the permanent post of L/SL in Film Production or UP/SUP in Film Production.

Job description: https://tinyurl.com/22xvrcv7

Lecturer / Senior Lecturer 1.0 FTE (1 Post)
OR
University Practitioner / Senior University Practitioner 0.5 FTE (2 Posts)

The Department of Media and Performance at the University of Huddersfield seeks to appoint outstanding film makers and educators with exceptional potential. You will demonstrate a desire to contribute to the Department’s international excellence in digital and screen media and its role in the Yorkshire Film and Television School.

We are looking for ambitious screen industry practitioners with exceptional potential and a proven record of national and international excellence in one or more of the following roles:

·        Director of Photography
·        Director
·        Editor

Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for translating a record of innovative and successful industry practices into excellence in teaching creative and technical dimensions of film making in Higher Education. We are seeking applicants who share the ambitions and core values of the Yorkshire Film and Television School:

·        An approach that recognises the interdependence of technical, creative and analytical skills;
·        Innovative responses to changing practices in the production, distribution and reception of film in the digital age;
·        An emphasis on co-creation and fostering educational environments that bring together aspiring creative professionals in film making, screen performance, screenwriting, music and sound production, costume design and beyond;
· A commitment to advancing diversity and equality in Higher Education and the screen industries.

Successful candidates at Senior Lecturer or Senior University Practitioner level may be offered the role of programme director with significant strategic freedom to develop the curriculum and students’ learning experience.

The University is ranked 7th in Film Production and Photography in the Guardian University Guide 2021. Our facilities include a newly completed 300 sqm single camera sound stage as part of our Firth Street Studio development, television studios, and a campus including the £30 million Barbara Hepworth building completed in 2019. The Department is part of Screen Yorkshire’s Connect Campus initiative and is committed to supporting the growth of creative industries in Yorkshire and beyond.

We recognise the complex demands of work in the screen industries and offers flexible appointment rotes to applicants: those seeking to combine industry practice with sharing and disseminating knowledge and innovation are encouraged to apply for the role of Senior University Practitioner or University Practitioner. Practitioner appointments sit alongside your continuing career in film production with a negotiable fraction up to a maximum of 0.5 FTE.

Applicants combining excellence in film production with a track record of internationally excellent or world leading research are in turn encouraged to apply for the full-time position of Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Film Production. Applicants to a lecturer or senior lecturer position should demonstrate strong potential in the generation of research impact and research and enterprise income.

The University is one of two gold-rated Yorkshire institution in the Teaching Excellence Framework and is committed to highest standards in the generation and dissemination of knowledge. Successful candidates will contribute to the delivery, management and development of our BA Film Making, BA Television Studies and Production and new Masters programmes and be able to evidence highest standards of teaching and a capacity to engage and inspire diverse student cohorts.

We actively welcome applications from groups under-represented in higher education, including (but not limited to) women, people of colour, LGBTQI+ applicants and applicants with disabilities, as well as applicants from outside of the UK.

For an informal discussion of the role, please contact Professor Cornel Sandvoss ([log in to unmask]), Head of Department of Media and Performance
