Call for Proposals
for a preconstituted panel on Girls' Media Studies at
Console-ing Passions: A Conference on Television, Audio, Video, New Media, and
Feminism
April 24-26, 2008 in Santa Barbara, CA
The objective of this panel is to broaden and complicate feminist
media studies by foregrounding girl-centered research. Special
consideration will be given to historical studies of girls' media
culture, as well as projects dealing with girls' media production
(films, websites, radio programs) and girls' uses of digital media
technologies (cell phones, MP3 players, social networking sites).
Interested scholars should send a brief proposal (~250 words) to Mary
Kearney ([log in to unmask]) by October 1, 2007. Selections
for the panel will be made by October 8, leaving time to develop full
proposals for the final November 1 deadline.
