I don't know if this fits what you're looking for, but
Errol Morris' _The Thin Blue Line_ (a sort of docudrama)
apparently helped re-open the court case of a man
falsely accused of murdering a Dallas police officer. In
the new trial the man was acquitted, and there was much
ado in thepress about the role the film played in securing
his freedom (man's name is Randall Dale Adams).
