Small point, but the costume shop owner in "EWS" is almost certainly meant
to be of Balkan extraction: His name is Milich, and he's played by the
Croatian actor Rade Serbedzija (who will work again with Tommy Cruise in
John Woo's "Mission Impossible 2").

One other thing: Mr. O'Neill, declares, with good reason, "Try, just try,
to find that many people to help you do *anything* in New York City." True
enough, which is probably why Bill Harford has to spend so much money on
information, cab rides, and clothes. One of the things that struck me
about the film was how it conveyed the power of cash over people: Cruise
buys his way through his dark night of the soul, just as he is bought and
paid for by the rich folks for whom he makes housecalls. It's a film about
capital as well as sex.
