I would direct you to the great theatrical postmodernists who have branched
into film:  Sam Shepard ("Paris, Texas," "Far North"), David Mamet ("House of
Games," "Homicide"), Harold Pinter (screenwriter for the adaptations of "The
French Lieutenant's Woman" and "The Handmaid's Tale," among others).  Also
novelist/screenwriter/director Neil Jordan ("The Company of Wolves," "Mona
Lisa," and "The Crying Game").  You might also wish to include the work of
Martin Scorsese, Peter Greenaway, Derek Jarman, Jane Campion.
