DECODINGS is a truly brilliant work -- available on film and tape from
Frameline distributors, San Francisco. I show it every year in my film
theory course. As for the music, I believe it's a Shostakovitch sonata,
but not the opus 147 or 40 which are all I ever see recorded. If anyone
has a lead on the actual piece, I'd too be much obliged.
