Might I suggest a moment's silence on this film and TV-oriented list
in memory of Dennis Potter -- writer of Pennies From Heaven, The Singing
Detective, Lipstick on Your Collar, and many other films and, especially,
television programs of great ingenuity, passion, wit, and intelligence,
which also acknowledged the capacity for these properties in his
audiences -- who died this week at age 59.

"Unhappy the land in need of heroes," wrote Brecht in Galileo, but
TV-land could use a few more like Potter.
