It was the German director Fassbinder with a film called "Lola" that
immediately came to mind.  He used colors on different characters to illustrate
mood.   For example:  two people sitting in a parked convertible talking; one
is bathed in blue light, the other is in red.  These colors aren't coming from
any "real" light source in the scene (such as nearby neon) it is simply done
for the contrast in the character's moods.             Jeff Dugan
