Dear Robert,

Thanks for the added title...John Lawrence will be collecting additional
items and including in a revision, a revision which will ALSO include
the DIRECTORS of the films listed--a detail which may cause lights
to go on among film scholars.

Some web search engines are having trouble finding the list, so here
is a modified version of the first announcement which includes the
direct address of the list of Presidential Films.....

PRESIDENTIAL FILMS LISTED ON FILM & HISTORY
    WEB SITE: HTTP://H-NET.MSU.EDU/~FILMHIS

In preparation for the conference on The Presidency in Film and TV,
John Lawrence, retired professor and polymath, has assembled a
"complete" list of presidential films. It represents a lot of effort on his
part and we are delighted to share it with film scholars.

The conference will be held near the Ronald Reagan Presidential
Library, November 10-12, 2000. (45 minutes from LAX airport.)

Films are assembled in decade clusters, beginning with 1900 and
ending with "Deterrence," a presidential film released in March of
2000.

Each film line on the spread sheet has the following categories
supplied:

TITLE OF FILM
Genre
Citation for New York Times review.
Citation for Variety review
Actor-President
Plot

This collection of information will be valuable to many and is on
the Film & History web site. Whatever your focus, it should be
of great interest to see how the presidency was being depicted in
the time period of your research.

Directions: Go to the Film & History web site...Click on the
Banner for our conference on The Presidency in Film and TV...Click
on "Filmography of Presidential Films" (lower left of the page).

This list may stimulate some good proposals, so inspect it and
get back to us with your paper proposal....

We will be accepting proposals until 1 September, but the early
scholar gets the best panel....

By the way, if you spot gaps in John Lawrence's list, he wants
to hear from you...It is an evolving collection. John's address
