FILM STUDIES AND AMERICAN STUDIES

Television and Broadcast History and Aesthetics. The Department of Film 
Studies and the Program in American Studies seek a scholar-teacher for a 
joint appointment in Television and Broadcast History and Aesthetics. The 
successful candidate will be someone whose work addresses television's 
historical role in reflecting and constructing American culture; the 
interaction of story-telling practices, genres, visual forms, social 
functions, government policy and economic organizations; and is eager to 
work in an interdisciplinary setting. A background in Film history and 
aesthetics is also desirable. Candidates should be prepared to teach their 
specialty to undergraduates at beginning, intermediate, and advanced 
levels. Requirements include a Ph.D. in hand or near completion. Send 
letter of application, CV, dossier, three confidential letters of 
recommendation, brief statements describing research and teaching, writing 
sample (25 pp.) and self-addressed post card to: Jeanine Basinger and 
Richard Slotkin, Co-Chairs of the Search Committee, Center for Film 
Studies, Wesleyan University, Middletown CT 06549. All application
