Panel Proposal for 2002 SCS Conference:
(Sorry for this late posting. If interested, please contact as soon as
possible!)

Contradictory spaces: cinema, history, and cultural imaginaries

This panel will explore the tensions between cinematically constructed
communities and the public that imagines and makes use of them. Topics
should address how films are made to service the desires of national,
global, political, or sexual communities while frequently producing
competing and contradictory discourses and receptions. Please email
inquiries and proposals to Matt Reynolds, University of Rochester,
[log in to unmask], fax: (716) no later than Sept. 15.
