WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY FILM STUDIES DEPARTMENT invites applications for a
tenure-track assistant professor in Film and Digital Video Production.
Applicants should be experienced filmmakers with a demonstrated record
of teaching undergraduate film and video production. MFA and/or Ph.D.
in Film Studies or related discipline required. Primary
responsibilities include supervising senior thesis projects and
teaching 16mm sync/non-sync cameras, DV cameras, analog/digital
recording, 16mm and digital post-production, and screenwriting.
Knowledge of technological innovations in the field required, and
expertise in 2D and 3D computer and camera animation a plus.
Applicants must be able to lecture on technical and conceptual
production skills as well as to teach the small crew model of
narrative filmmaking. Wesleyan’s program is solidly grounded in the
integration of production and critical studies, and applicants must be
committed to teaching film and video production within the context of
film as an academic discipline. Strong consideration will be given to
the teaching record of the candidate, professional portfolio, and
willingness to participate in the further expansion of a burgeoning
program. Applications received before November 1, 2008 will be given
full consideration for a Fall 2009 start date. Please submit
statement of interest, including artistic background and teaching
philosophy, curriculum vitae, a sample DVD of up to two films, and
three letters of recommendation to: Jeanine Basinger, Chair, Film
Studies Department, Center for Film Studies, 301 Washington Terrace,
Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT. 06459. Wesleyan is an equal
opportunity and affirmative action employer and welcomes applications
from women and members of historically under-represented minority
groups.
