look at several essays on "looking through movies", collection came out
several years ago edited by Mark Crispin Miller with good piece by him, too.
 
I addressed the high concept/blockbuster phenomenon, relationship to
commodification, narcissism so forth, in "On the McMovie: Less is Less at the
Simplex", in SCREEN MEMORIES: HOLLYWOOD CINEMA ON THE PSYCHOANALYIC COUCH,
Columbia University Press, l993, now in paperback.
There are several relevent citations in that essay.
