association with Centre for Media and Celebrity Studies (CMCS), is
hosting its first celebrity studies conference in New York City on August
30-September 1.
The conference is currently offering discounted registration to guests and
journalists.

The Centre for Media and Celebrity Studies (CMCS) is hosting an exclusive
conference on celebrity academics and critics on August 30-September 1 at
CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. The conference
features keynotes Andrew Mendelson, P. David Marshall, and Tim Harper who
will speak on the significance of celebrity studies and current trends in
celebrity journalism, photojournalism, and journalism education in New York
City.

* Andrew L. Mendelson* is currently the associate dean and a professor at
the CUNY School of Journalism. Previously he was a faculty member in the
department of journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia for nearly 15
years, serving as department chair for the last eight. In his current role,
he serves as the school’s chief academic officer, overseeing faculty,
curriculum and student affairs. His opening talk titled Everyone’s a
Critic: The Role of the Media Scholar in the Age of Instant and Pervasive
Commenting will take place on August 31, 2017

*P. David Marshall *is a research professor and holding a personal chair in
new media, communication and cultural studies at Deakin University, has
published widely in two areas: the public personality/celebrity and new
media culture. He has been a keynote speaker at many international
conferences as well as interviewed for articles and many broadcast media
programs from CNN, Fox News, BBC, and the ABC/Radio National to the Sydney
Morning Herald, New York Times and the Toronto Star. His keynote talk
titled Pandemic Mediatized Identity: Professional Personas as Public
Intellectuals in the Social Media and “Presentational Media” Era will
highlight latest trends in celebrity and persona studies on September 1,
2017.

* Timothy Harper *is a longtime journalist and author who has written a
dozen books and helped many other people write and publish their books. Tim
has also written more than 1,000 articles, including essays and op-eds, in
publications as varied as Atlantic Monthly and airline magazines. He has
taught at NYU’s and Columbia’s graduate schools of journalism, and is now a
visiting professor and writing coach at the CUNY Graduate School of
Journalism. A lawyer, he is a member of the First Amendment Committee for
the American Association of Journalists and Authors, for whom he leads
panel discussions and workshops on reporting, writing and publishing. His
featured workshop “Thoughtful Branding for Your Thinking” will be a
significant contribution to celebrity journalism in New York City.

Centre for Media and Celebrity Studies (CMCS) is an international
organization that helps coordinating academic research and media
commentaries on fame. CMCS carries a pedagogical philosophy that inspires
integration of high quality research in academic and public discourses in
celebrity culture.  Using the critical lens of celebrity studies, CMCS
