Luc Besson's SUBWAY (1985) is a (relatively straight) reworking of the
Orpheus myth; the same director's NIKITA (1989) incorporates a series of
mythical plot tropes from Cinderella to Faust. See also Leos Carax' LES
AMANTS DU PONT-NEUF (1991), which borrows from a number of Greek myths, and
Jeunet & Caro's DELICATESSEN (1990). The Orpheus and Theseus myths feature
prominently in both of these films. MANON DES SOURCES, perhaps most clearly
in Claude Berri's 1985 version, revolves around religious and fertility
myths, with Manon represented as a Pan figure.
