CALL FOR PAPERS
The Austin Editors of The Velvet Light Trap seek papers for an issue devoted to:
STARS
Since Richard Dyer's pioneering work on stars in the late 1970s and early
1980s, stars and star discourse have become a major field of inquiry in film
and television studies. New modes of thinking about media texts, auteurism,
and extra-textual relations have emerged due to growing attention to the
signification of stardom. Papers may address such questions as:
*In the *post-Dyer* era, how does stardom get constructed (both in theory
and in the industry)?
*In what ways are stars mediated through popular culture?
*In what ways do memory and history affect star construction/personas?
*How do feminist, queer, and ethnic theories contribute to star discourse?
*How do certain stars get privileged over others? Whar are the
characteristics of canonicity within star studies? Papers on particular
stars are welcome.
