It was given a theatrical release with subtitles in Australia. The
print was that struck for the American market, so presumably the
thinking was that Americans would not be able to understand the
accent. A number of Australian films have been dubbed for the
American market on the same grounds.
What is interesting is that the effect of the subtitles is to
sanitise and de-politicise the dialogue.
