During the week of August 25, the Scary Women web site
(www.cinema.ucla.edu/women/) will host a discussion of "THE LEECH WOMAN'S
Revenge: On the Dread of Aging in a Low-Budget Horror Film" by Vivian
Sobchack (Associate Dean of the Schoolof Theater, Film, and Television at
UCLA; author of THE ADDRESS OF THE EYE: A PHENOMENOLOGY OF FILM EXPERIENCE
and editor of THE PERSISTENCE OF HISTORY: CINEMA, TELEVISION, AND THE MODERN
EVENT.) The discussion will be moderated by Rhona Berenstein (UC Irvine),
who is the author of ATTACK OF THE LEADING LADIES: GENDER, SEXUALITY, AND
SPECTATORSHIP IN CLASSIC HORROR CINEMA.

We hope that anyone who has an interest in discussing popular
representations of aging women will join us. If you would like to
participate in the discussion but don't have access to the Web, please send
a message to [log in to unmask] Please write "Request to join scary women" in
the subject line and let us know whether or not you can receive attached
documents through your e-mail account.
