We’re pleased to announce details of the X Biennial Conference of the
Association of Iberian and Latin American Studies of Australasia (AILASA).

AILASA 2012 conference is hosted by the Victoria Institute for Links with
Latin America (VILLA) at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.



Conference Venue: Victoria University School of Architecture and Design,
139 Vivian Street, Wellington, New Zealand

Dates: Wednesday 4 – Saturday 7 July 2012



Conference Theme

The theme for the 2012 conference is Centring the Margins: Reconfiguring
the Map of Knowledge in Humanities and Sciences in the Iberian and Latin
American Worlds.

Possible topics for papers might include, but are not restricted to, the
following:

Perceptions and Misperceptions of the “Periphery”

Peripheries and Globalisation

Globalisation in the Latin American and Iberian Economies

Politics and “Peripheries”

Literature and film relating to peripheral perspectives,

Indigeneity

Sustainability and Resilience

Mapping Knowledge Transfer in Technology and the Sciences.

Historical Perspectives from the Margins

Transnational/regional Latin American identity formation

Latin American cinematic co-productions and transnational funding

Testimonial and documentary expressions of minority cultures

Regional and Global Cultures
