To Tom Puckett - start with _Women in Film: an International Guide_
edited by Annette Kuhn and Susannah Radstone. You'll have to skim the
U.S. filmmakers out of the rest of the alphabetically presented
information, but that should be the work of a very few hours. The
book was published in paperback in 1991 by Fawcett Books, and should
still be available (I hope!).
