Assistant Professor Film & Media Arts
Tenure Track
New Position to Begin July 1, 2015

The Department of Film & Media Arts at the University of Utah seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in film and media culture, with an expected start date of July 1, 2015. A Ph.D. or equivalent in Film/Media Studies or a related field must be in hand by August 15, 2015.

Applicants must have the ability to teach courses in film and digital media theory, history, and/or culture, and have a strong understanding of the study of media within the Arts. Additional areas of interest include, but are not limited to, internet presentation (e.g., web TV, streaming content), transmedia storytelling, gaming, production studies, transnational media cultures, and the study of race, class, and gender, and/or sexuality across media. Applicants who engage in production in addition to critical studies will be considered. International and interdisciplinary approaches are especially welcome. All applicants must demonstrate clear evidence of scholarly potential.

Responsibilities will also include helping design curriculum in film and media arts history that covers contemporary media making outside the classical cannon of film as well as traditional film history and creating new curriculum designed to help our students imagine the breadth of possibility in media art making in the post-digital age.

The Film and Media Arts Department at the University of Utah is one of six units within the College of Fine Arts. The majority of our undergraduate and graduate students combine critical, theoretical and analytical competencies with an emphasis in independent film and media production, video game design, screenwriting, animation, or critical studies. We support a variety of critical approaches to a broadly defined idea of contemporary film and media, and hope to hire someone who will help us expand our curriculum.

Applicants must submit CV, cover letter, graduate school transcripts and a writing sample to http://utah.peopleadmin.com/postings/37219 by February 6, 2015. Please direct questions to Sterling Van Wagenen, [log in to unmask]
