I disagree - there was a highly visible and seemingly successful retrospective
in town last year, with each film in a week-long engagement (after two sets of
once-only retrospectives the two years previous at the PFA sold out nearly
every show). The most recent showings were put on by an independent company
(seemingly seeing some profit possible), and the layout of their ads in the
local paper looked as though it was made to go quickly from there to cassette
packaging ("John" in small letters at the top, and "CASSAVETES" aligned
vertically in larger letters, perfect for the spine, and to the right of that,
a photo from each film, and the title beneath, each film having its own
typeface, making for a varied yet unified design scheme).
