AN OPEN INVITATION TO JOIN A NEW YOUTH MEDIA LISTSERVE!

The Bay Area Media Education Consortium is a collaboration of San
Francisco Bay Area youth media providers, artists and educators who
work with students to do media production activities in the classroom, in
after-school programs, in museum and arts education settings and in
venues where students have opportunities for mentored media
production activities. Groups involved with the Consortium include Artist
Television Access; D*LAB, Wired Youth, Southern Exposure Gallery's
"Race Represenation and Youth" project; Strategies for Media Literacy;
and many individual teachers, artists and students who conduct media
education with youth. The group has a particular interest in hands-on
production of media and comes together for mutual support and
information that will enhance media teaching.

To those ends, the Consortium hosts The Hands-on Media Education
Listserve. The Hands-On Listserve is located on the WestEd internet
server. WestEd is one of ten regional educational laboratories of the
U.S. Department of Education and the Hands-On Listserve is part of
WestEd work to improve schools through the innovative use of
technology and school practice.

THE PURPOSE FOR HANDS-ON MEDIA EDUCATION LISTSERVE

The Hands-on Media Education Listserve is an opportunity for those
interested in youth media and media education to share ideas, promising
practices and strategies for teaching about media. The listserve is
tailored for the discussion of education about media through both critical
analysis and experiential, student media production in both formal and
informal classrooms. It is of particular interest to K-12 media educators.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We need your help to make the new Hands-On Listserve a success!
Please contribute as many of your ideas, resources, teaching tips,
funding opportunities or networking opportunities to the list. We do not
want items unrelated to media education, flames, or paid advertisements.
We'll work on growing a listserve culture over time, but in the beginning,
please join us and make an effort to contribute your ideas and
resources.

The list moderator is Curtis Draves, Co-Director of Artists Television
Access and classroom media educator in San Francisco. You can reach
the list moderator at: Curtis Draves <[log in to unmask]>
