When shown in US theaters in the '80s NAPOLEON's final reel (the
triptych part) was presented via the anamorphic process (as in
CinemaScope, Panavision)--even though the rest of the film was not! If
the projectionist was not alert that last reel was often shown WITHOUT
an anamorphic lens, making for a very skinny Napoleon.

A friend of mine who wasn't familiar with the anamorphic process (and
thus did not know to complain) reported this happening at a screening
in in Birmingham, AL.

Which reminds me, Spike Lee's CROOKLYN has an anamorphic "dream"
sequence in it, but was meant to be shown squeezed. Quite perplexing
for conscientious projectionists who aren't warned about it ahead of
time.
