Shalom,
The guests this year included Wim Wenders (I attended an
hour discussion , a most articulate man) "Million Dollar Hotel
Volker Schloendorf ("Legends of Rita"), Ang Lee ("Crouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon") Kirk Douglas received an award and his
latest film "Diamonds" was screened. Michael Cacoyannis appeared at
the screening of his "The Cherry Orchard" and Istvan Szabo
at his "Sunshine". This latter film was a 3 hour epic that
told the story of 3 generations of Hungarian Jews. All 3 males
were played by Raph Fiennes. He was charming and very
forthright in his talk to the audience. In addition I saw
Jonathan Nossiter at the screening of his "Signs and Wonders".
I viewed some outsanding documentaries such as
Frederick Wiseman's "Belfast, Maine" and "Cinema
Verite".
If you want some more information on what was screened please let me
know. I saw 23 films out of 150 from all over the world. A wonderful
festival .
