Bram Stoker's Dracula (there's an excellent Thomas Elsaesser article on this
in Contemporary Hollywood Cinema, edited by Murray Smith and Stephen Neale).
Also, Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow contains a thaumatrope and...I forgot what
you call that thing that looks like a zoetrope that projects on walls. There
are also the rather odd vision-enhancing instruments that Ichabod Crane
uses.
