The classic example of film influencing reality was the decline of sales of
men's undershirts after Clark Gable was revealed not to be wearing one in
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER.  I've always wondered, though, if that story was just
apocryphal/urban legend.
 
Something more verifiable was the influence of BIRTH OF A NATION in reviving
 the Ku Klux Klan as a political force!
