Then of course, there are all the adaptations of medieval legends -- such as
Robin Hood stories or the stories of King Arthur, often rewrites of rewrites
of rewrites... not sure if these count as blendings of "short stories" but I
thought I'd mention them just the same.  For example, THE NATURAL is a novel
that intentionally uses metaphors that allude to and pull directly from
Malory's book of the Arthurian legends, and both come through in the film
adaptation; but is this blending of stories or simply a compilation of
narrative motifs?  Where does one draw the line?
