Film Studies Programme
King's College, University of London

Applications are invited for two permanent Lectureships in the Film Studies Programme in the School of Humanities at King's College London.  Appointment will be from 1 September 2004, or as soon as possible thereafter by mutual agreement. Candidates should have a PhD in hand (or be nearing completion), a strong research record and high-quality publications in print and in progress. 

1.  Lecturer in Film History

The successful applicant will have research and teaching interests in the area of film history.  We are particularly though not exclusively interested in candidates with an emphasis in American cinema who can contribute to our combined studies degree in Film and American Studies.  She or he will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in international film history (silent, sound, postwar and contemporary), as well as contributing to postgraduate courses in film studies and media studies. 2.  Lecturer in Film Theory and Aesthetics

The successful applicant will have research and teaching interests in the area of film theory, and will be responsible for undergraduate courses on classical, modern, and contemporary film theory as well as developing new postgraduate courses for our MAs in Contemporary Cinema Cultures, Visual & Performing Arts: the NFT and Digital Technology and Culture.  Potential areas of expertise could also include film and philosophy, gender studies, postcolonial studies, television, and electronic and digital media. Further particulars

With these appointments the Film Studies Programme wishes to consolidate and enhance its research and teaching excellence  in film theory, aesthetics and history, while extending and complementing the range of subjects taught within it.  The successful applicants will have, or be in the course of establishing, a record of research and publication, and will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across a range of courses-including new MAs in Contemporary Cinema Cultures and Visual and Performing Arts:  the NFT-as well as undertaking examining and administrative duties within the programme as required.

Both appointments will be made on either the Lecturer A or B salary scale, within the range £22,191 to £33,679 per annum, plus £2,134 London Allowance per annum (pay award pending), depending on qualifications and experience.
