This isn't quite what you were asking about but many people have
pointed out how Kathryn Bigelow's films are often a form of revisionist
action (male) film.  Lots of cops, violence, etc.  Unfortunately,
except for the sublime Near Dark and bits of Strange Days, they're all
pretty dull.  There are also a few women directors working in
low-budget films doing male-associated genres like erotic thrillers and
action films, Katt Shea Rubin is the only name that pops to mind right
now.
