You can find information on Jack Smith and his work in P. Adams Sitney's
_Visionary Film: The American Avant-Garde 1943-1978_ (Oxford 1979), David
James' _Allegories of Cinema: American Film in the Sixties_ (Princeton
1989) and Jonas Mekas' collected articles from the Village Voice, _Movie
Journal: The Rise of a New American Cinema 1959-1971_ (Collier 1972).
Smith was also a regular contributor and subject of articles in the
journal _Film Culture_ through the 1960s.
