Try Susan Hayward, "French National Cinema", London, Routledge (1993).  There's
an excellent chapter on the '30s and a massive great bibliography.  If you have
any specific queries, contact me off-list and I can pass them on (she teaches
here at Exeter).
 
However, you will find anything other than overview material will probably be
in French.
