CFP: Connected Viewing – Research on Emerging Trends

Dates: August 2013 - May 2014

The Media Industries Project (MIP) of the Carsey-Wolf Center at UC Santa
Barbara (http://www.carseywolf.ucsb.edu/mip), in collaboration with Warner
Bros., is assembling a small team of researchers for the second year of its
“Connected Viewing” initiative. We are examining emerging trends in digital
distribution, multiple screen exhibition and engagement practices, new
forms of audience activity, and their cultural implications.

We encourage proposals to study these issues from various perspectives and
methodologies, but are especially receptive to research questions that are
focused on the following:

   - Connected viewing and international markets, particularly India,
   Russia, and Latin America
   - Connected viewing and social media
   - Digital distribution trends and technologies as they relate to
   connected viewing
   - Consumer adoption and consumption of digital media
   - Search and discovery
   - UltraViolet, electronic sell through [EST], and the ownership
   proposition
   - Future models of connected viewing and the digital ecosystem

Please submit a 500-word proposal and budget for project, along with a CV
and letter of application, by August 1, 2013. In the proposal be sure to
include your research questions and preliminary argument(s) and/or
potential outcomes. Send completed applications and direct all inquiries to
Dr. Karen Petruska at: [log in to unmask]

Funding for projects will likely be in the $5,000-$7,000 range.
We will finalize the team by August 15, 2013.

All participants must be able to attend two research presentations in
Southern California – one in late October/early November 2013 and the other
in May 2014. Separate funding will be available for principal researcher’s
travel.
