            *** COMING TO BOOKSTORES IN JUNE ***

     THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO LESBIAN & GAY FILM AND VIDEO

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO LESBIAN & GAY FILM AND VIDEO, edited by Jenni Olson,
will be published by Serpent's Tail in June 1996.

Drawing on the expertise and resources of the San Francisco
International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO
LESBIAN & GAY FILM AND VIDEO is the first comprehensive survey of
our contemporary and historical moving image heritage. Offering a
thorough overview of the last twenty years of queer film and video
production, plus retrospective and archival titles, THE ULTIMATE
GUIDE presents the first authoritative review of the entire history
of gay and lesbian cinematic representation. Four years in the
making, this publication is the complete resource for gay and
lesbian film buffs, consumers wanting more information about
home video titles, students, activists, film and video makers, and
programmers who want to bring these important works to wider
audiences.

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO LESBIAN & GAY FILM AND VIDEO includes:

* More than 2000 fully annotated catalog entries
*  Extensive Subject Indexes
*  Director Index
*  Distributor/Source Directory
*  Bibliography
* Directory of International Gay & Lesbian Film Festivals
* Information and checklists on how to organize your own
    film/video festival

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE brings together a wide array of talents,
offering their perspectives on everything from Apartment Zero
to Zero Patience. Contributors include Lawrence Chua (Village
Voice), Dennis Harvey (Variety), Elizabeth Pincus (Harper's
Bazaar), Susan Gerhard (San Francisco Bay Gaurdian), Judith
Halberstam (Girlfriends), and Karl Knapper (Socialist Review).

Listings are organized alphabetically by title. Each listing includes
a description, review, or synopsis, along with standard production
information (title, director, country of origin, year of release,
running time, format, etc.), followed by information about the U.S.
and U.K. distributors.

Other features include: a directory of lesbian and gay mail-order
home video sources, separate listings of clip shows and special
programs, and a sampling of the results of Frameline's1993
Centenary of Cinema survey, which polled some 250 prominent
lesbian and gay media professionals, asking them to list their top
ten films (did you know that John Waters' favorite film is The
Wizard of Oz?).
