1. Studies in French Cinema: important news

As the volume of submissions has increased over the last few years, we have decided to move to four issues a year from volume 18 in 2018 (February, May, July, November). We have also decided to accept longer articles of up to 10,000 words. The fact that many articles in the sector are now pre-published before being allocated to a volume/issue has also meant that we have changed the standard format of six articles per issue. Colleagues may therefore find in the future that an ‘issue’ comprises articles that have been publicly available for as long as a year, and that the issue may have six articles of varying lengths, but may equally have fewer articles. This allows us to produce substantial special numbers while remaining within the annual budgeted number of pages. For example, 17:3 only has four articles (details below) with a total of 65 pages, while 18:1, a special issue devoted to comedy curated by Mary Harrod and myself, is likely to have six articles and a substantial introduction, the whole amounting to well over 100 pages.

2. Appointment of a Chief General Editor: Studies in French Cinema

I will be stepping down as Chief General Editor of Studies in French Cinema at the twentieth anniversary conference of the journal in the summer of 2020. In a change from the previous announcement, Routledge has agreed that the post could be shared by a senior colleague and a more junior colleague. Colleagues who wish to apply for the post, which is tenable for five years, should contact me for a candidate pack ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>). It is expected that the successful candidates will be Anglophone with a near-native command of French, and experienced researchers in French/Francophone cinema studies. Closing date for applications is 31 December 2017. For more journal information, please visit
