My colleague Prof. Steven P. Hill, who posted here both inquiries and 
responses to queries, passed away a few days ago.  He taught Russian and 
East European cinema in the Slavic Department at the University of 
Illinois, interviewed Russian film pioneers for Film Culture in the 
1970s, and passing of Steven  was also instrumental in getting the 
University of Illinois film archive started back in the 1960s.  Here are 
an obituary and a memorial article:
