I have been intrigued by the discussion of Schindler's List, and in particular
the various criticisms of Steven Speilberg. Is Speilberg an artist? Perhaps
not. Is he an extremely bright and talented entertainer? You betcha. Tens
of millions of moviegoers elect to see his works because they want to be
entertained--and they almost always get what they want. His films are
commercially successful because he gives millions of folks exactly what they
want. He may never achieve critical success, but he is undeniably one of the
most successful moviemakers of all time. The bottom line tells the tale.
