On the topic of wedding scenes and their significance,
a slightly off-topic suggestion is to have a look at
Stanley Cavell's PURSUITS OF HAPPINESS: THE HOLLYWOOD
COMEDY OF REMARRIAGE (Harvard Univ. Press, 1981). It is
a wonderfully speculative close reading of a series of
re-marriage comedies. Not to everyone's taste, but a book
that I think is just terrific.
