"Future birthplace of James T. Kirk" is Riverside, Iowa, a (dying)
farm-service community about 20 miles south of Iowa City consisting of a
feed mill, a used farm-implement dealer, several bars, and a population of
perhaps 1000. In the center of town, it has for years exhibited an
increasingly shopworn model of the Starship Enterprise, which it enters as
a float in parades in surrounding communities (including the U. of Iowa's
annual homecoming parade). Quaint, but pretty pathetic and I daresay not
much of a tourist draw.
