BAREFOOT IN THE KITCHEN (CON LA PATA QUEBRADA) A film by Diego Galán

	NOW AVAILABLE FOR EDUCATIONAL PURCHASE

“A detailed and delicious study of the role of women in our cinema,
and our country [Spain].” – VANITY FAIR

“[Diego Galán's] contention is that popular cinema implicitly
reveals something of contemporaneous social circumstances, and that
therefore Spains tumultuous 20th-century and the concurrent prevailing
attitudes towards women are reflected in its cinema and female
characters.” - EYE FOR FILM

Featuring archival footage from 180 movies, Barefoot in the Kitchen
chronicles how Spanish cinema has portrayed the evolution of women.
Humorously narrated, the film begins during the early 1930s in the
Second Republic, and it goes through the Spanish Civil War, Francos
regime, and the restoration of the constitutional monarchy.

Through the enjoyable film clips themselves -such as Maria Felix in
"Mare Nostrum" and Marisa Paredes in "All About My Mother"- reflecting
changes in the political sphere, Galán, a noted Spanish film critic
and scholar, demonstrates how landmarks in the recent history of Spain
can be directly indicated by shifts in social mores in cinema.

Co-produced by Pedro Almodóvar, Barefoot in the Kitchen is an
indispensable resource for Womens Studies, Global Feminism, Cinema and
Media Studies, sociology, and Ibero-American Studies, among other
disciplines.
