I believe the film that you are thinking of is "Sister, Sister" (1982),
directed by John Berry, written by Maya Angelou, and starring Carroll,
Rosalind Cash, Irene Cara et. al.

I do not belive that it has been released on videotape, but the correct
title should help in determining who might have it available for rental.
There is another film entitled "Sister, Sister" dated 1987, by the way,
so you will need to be specific in asking for the film you want.

Hope that is some help.
